Vegetable-tanned leather is a choice that protects humans and the environment for who love using leather.
The tanning process does not contain chemicals from fossil fuels that could be toxic.

VEGETABLE-TANNED LEATHER

Vegetable-tanned leather is a precious material due to its delicate and meticulous traditional tanning process.

The tannins to tan are found in nature, extracted from the tree bark, and leaves such as quebracho, mimosa, or chestnut bark powder, so the leather has a distinctive aroma - sweet and woody.
‍
From 40 to 60 days is the average time to finish the vegetable tanning process.

Vegetable-tanned leather is more expensive than mineral-tanned leather and it is used for high-grade handcrafts leather goods.

Above all, it is respectful of the environment.

CRAFTSMANSHIP AND SUSTAINABILITY

We only use the finest vegetable-tanned leather that is carefully selected from the oldest tanneries in Europe.

RADERMECKER Tannery - An artisanal tannery and eco-responsible leather. Their hides come directly from farms for beef production. Leather is there- fore a recycled and recovered waste product.

All leather we use is full grain and is finished by a light transparent layer - to preserve the natural appearance of the leather. That also requires extreme craftsmanship when craftsmen make leather goods.

Starting with a natural material, tanned with natural tannins, a vegeta- ble-tanned object can biodegrade at the end of its lifecycle.

THE PATINA

The vegetable-tanned leather items will become softer by using. And theobject becomes richer or darker in color.

It’s called the “leather patina” - the beauty in aging - it develops slowly on the surface through time, regular use, exposure to body oils and natural impacts.
